Eduardo Hughes Galeano (born September 3, 1940) is an Uruguayan journalist, writer and novelist. His books have been translated into many languages. He says: "I'm a writer obsessed with remembering, with remembering the past of America above all and above all that of Latin America, intimate land condemned to amnesia.' He is the author of Days and Nights of Love and War (winner of the 1978 Casa de las Americas Prize), The Book of Embraces, and the highly acclaimed Memory of Fire trilogy.

This book describes a lot of history, facts and figures about Latin America. But that is all it contains and soon gets repetitive. Nearly all the information is negative, so I did not really enjoy reading this book, although I did learn quite a lot.
Ein gutes Buch, um eine südamerikanische Perspektive kennen zulernen.Schade, dass es keine deutsche Variante zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt auf dem Kindle gab.
Galleano tells the story of the exploitation on Latin America since the discovery by Christopher Columbus up to the 1970s. The edition is a reedition of the book of 1972. Nethertheless it is actual and makes the reader understand what happens to this continent.
This book is excellent, but unfortunately the author makes clear we brazilians are "sub imperialists", but nobody loans money from us, neither we invade other Latin America country culturally or militarily. This is unfornatelly a idea spread in the Spanish America maybe because our size or different language.
